Here is the most recent progress. The hope was to work on excavating the backyard for the new basement, but with the iffy rain this week...it wasn't the best time to start digging a big hole that could fill up with water. So, there was some demo done inside the house instead.
This is the front entry (which used to be an outdoor porch, but was converted into living space. We are converting it back to an outdoor porch.
See how when they made it living space they tried to level out the floor over the sagging outdoor porch? It didn't work, the porch just continued to drop and sag as the years went on, leaving us with a drop in the floor that everyone trips on when they walk through. Plus it wasn't insulated, so we were losing drastic amounts of heat and everyone's piggies were burr cold when walking on that floor.)
Things should start moving now and hopefully, and we will post progress as we go. We are all set with a different builder, and ready to get going now. This apartment living is getting old!
Long story short about the delay...We had some issues getting our preferred builder approved with our bank. So we are now working with someone else, which is a bummer because we were so far along with the first builder and were very confident in him. It put us behind by more than three months, which is really frustrating, but we never really expected to not have frustrations along the way. We are happy with the new company and have had great referrals about them from people we know, so we now feel confident to move forward. The biggest negative about the timing of this, besides the extended apartment living, is that we are going into a bad weather season, having not done the major construction work yet. Hopefully the next few months will be light with rain. Wish us luck!
